100 Day!!!

Wow! Can you believe we have been in school for 100 days! We had a great time this week celebrating the number 100. On Thursday we had Zero the Hero visit our classroom. Zero the Hero loves zeros! We were very excited because he performed a magic trick. He turned one hundred pennies into a clean crisp one dollar bill! After Zero the Hero flew off, we practiced writing our numbers to 100 and eating 100 snacks.

Thank you for helping make the 100 day posters. They turned out great!

100 Day Fun!

Valentine’s Party
On February 13th at 2:30 we will be having our Valentine’s Party. I put a list of all the students in our classroom in your child's B.E.E. folders so that your child can begin writing out Valentines. Please start early and have your child write out his/her own Valentines. This is great writing/reading practice. They may bring the Valentines in any time prior to the party. Please have them turned in by Monday, February 11th.

Valentine Boxes
Our family project for the month of February will be creating a Valentine box. Please use a cereal box or a shoe box. You can decorate it any way you wish. Please turn the class Valentines and Valentine boxes in on Monday, February 11th.

Arctic Animals

We had a fantastic week learning about arctic animals. We read several informational books and practiced recalling facts. In math we finished our measurement unit. Some of the vocabulary words to practice are least, most, largest, and smallest. Next week we will be starting addition.

Here are our puff paint bears. We used shaving cream and glue to make puff paint and glitter to make the snow flakes. We read Polar Bears and used the information we learned to write two facts about polar bears.

In Art on Thursday we finished our self portraits. Can you guess who they are?

Don't forget to help your child with their 100 day collections. They are due on Wednesday, January 23rd. Thank you for your help!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonder holiday. We had a great first week back. Our theme this week was winter. We started the week off with reading The Missing Mitten Mystery and talking about the beginning, middle and ending of the story. We also made name snowmen and measured them with unifix cubes.

We discussed which one was longest and shortest. Tuesday we read The Biggest Best Snowman and talked about the different parts of a narrative story. We made a story map and answered the questions: Who was the author? What was the setting of the story? Who were the characters? What was the problem? What was the solution? These are questions you should ask when you read stories with your child.  We also made our own biggest best snowmen.

Wednesday we read The Mitten and practiced retelling the story using character cut outs. Thursday we read Sadie and the Snowman and made sponge paint snowmen.

Today we read another story by Jan Brett, The Hat. We made a list of all the winter clothing we wear to stay warm. We then made winter mini book to go in our new "book bags". Each week we will be adding new mini books to our bags. At the end of the year they will get to bring home their collection of books.
