Upcoming Events

Thank you to those who came to conferences. I enjoyed meeting with you to discuss your child's accomplishments.

Here are a few important notes about upcoming events...

Hit the Books
Two Springs is excited to be a part of the Storm Chasers “Hit the Books” Reading Program this year. The program is designed to encourage students to read books both in school and at home. Each student needs to read two books for each base. There are prizes for each base.
1st Base Prize= bookmark (we did the first base together in class)
2nd Base Prize= pencil
3rd Base Prize= ruler
Home Prize=Free ticket to the April 14th game
*** I put the recording sheets in the B.E.E. folder. When you finish a base please return the recording sheet and your child will receive their prize.

Gifford Farm Field Trip
Our class is excited to go on our last field trip of the year. We will be going to the Gifford Farm on April 24th. For this field trip we will not need parent volunteers. I know so many of you enjoy going on field trips with your child but the Gifford farm has a great staff that divides the classes in such small groups we do not need the extra parent support. Parents are welcome to  join us for a picnic lunch at Washington park. We will be arriving at the park around 11:00. The kids will get time to eat and play before we head back to school. A detailed note and permission form will be coming home at a later date.

Spring Music Concert
Spring is here! We are be having our Spring Music Concert on April 23rd. It will be at Bellevue West at 7:00 p.m. Please mark your calendar! All of the student are expected to participate. It will be nice to see all the kids in their new spring outfits.

Pizza Hut Book It Program
Thank you to all who participated in the Book It program. This program only runs from October to March so please turn in your March record sheets as soon a possible to receive your last free personalize pizza certificate.

Kindergarten Celebration
Our Kindergarten Celebration of Learning will be on Thursday, May 16th at 2:00 p.m. We will be celebrating with songs and  showing a video that highlights things we did throughout the year. The celebration will be in our classrooms.

Thank you!

Dr. Seuss Week

Thank You!!!
Thank you for all the wonderful notes and pictures this week! I feel very fortunate to have such a great class with such supportive parents.

Dr. Seuss Week

This week we celebrated Dr. Seuss. We read several Dr. Seuss books and made different crafts to go with the stories. Monday we read  The Cat in the Hat and made Cat in the Hat hats. On Tuesday we read I Can Read With My Eyes Shut and practiced reading our color words.  Wednesday, we read Fox in Socks and made fun pattern socks.  Thursday we watched The Sneetches and put stars on our yellow shirts. We used the lesson of the story to discuss how we can be kind to each other. Thank you for helping your child dress up for the daily themes. They all looked great!

In computer lab this week we learned about the program paint. The students made space pictures using different shapes and tools on the paint program. Check them out in the video below.

Next week the Two Springs Student Council is raising money for the Pennies for Patients. All the money raised will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. If you would like to donate please send in the donations between March 11th through March 28th.

Conferences
In the B.E.E. folders you will find your conference time and date. Please sign and return the bottom portion of the invitation.  If you have a conflict with your time please let me know ASAP.  The book fair will be open during conferences so please schedule extra time to check it out.

Spring is in the Air
The weather is warming up! But it is still very chilly in the mornings. We do have morning recess, so please continue to send proper clothing for your child. Our school rule is kids need to have coats on if the temperature is below 60 degrees.

Mark your Calendar!
We have set the date for our Kindergarten Celebration of Learning.  This will be in our classroom on Thursday,  May 16th at 2:00 p.m.  We will be celebrating with songs and a video from the past year followed by snacks.

Space

This week we continued our Objects in the Sky unit. We read several informational books about the planets and constellations. Our favorite planet that we learn about was Earth. We used the facts we learned to create an informational book.

On Monday, we added a lot of different space toys to our centers. In our Home Living center we added a large rocket.  The kids had a great time taking imaginary trips to the different planets.  In math we continued our unit on subtraction. This is a very difficult math skill for kindergarteners to grasp. Please try to practice this skill often. We will continue the unit next week.
