ABC's of Kindergarten

A
If your child is absent, please call the office at 402-293-5070.  A note stating the reason for the absence must be brought to school as to avoid an unexcused absence.

B
B.E.E. Folders help keep us organized.  The folder houses homework, newsletter/take home papers, and other items that assist with communication between home and school.

District policy states that students should not bring in birthday treats. I do realize that birthdays are a big deal. The class sings "Happy Birthday" and they get to wear a birthday sticker. There is also a birthday club in the library. You can donate a book to the library and have your child's name on a book plate inside of the front cover. See Mrs. Agar for details about the Birthday Club.
I will send home book order forms for you and your child to look over every month.  Book clubs offer books at reduced prices.  It's a great way to build your child's home library!

C
Parent and Teacher conferences are held at the end of the first and third quarter.  Watch for information and reply accordingly.
Communication is important.  Feel free to contact me whenever you have a question or concern.  You can reach me by phone 402-293-5070, in person, by email (april.schmeckpeper@bpsne.net), or by note.
D
Discipline is simple. We work hard as a class to make the classroom a positive and safe place for all.  We have one rule "Never Hurt Anyone on the Inside or the Outside." There is a full description of our discipline plan on our website under the parent tab.

H
Students will have some homework in Kindergarten.  Our homework program is called Fast Start. New poems and activities will be sent home every Wednesday. Please spend five to ten minutes on the activities with your child three times a week.

Independence is a goal for students because it builds self-esteem and self-confidence.  Kindergarteners are very capable of doing many things on their own and I encourage them to do as much as they can for themselves in the classroom.  Please work on the following skills at home with your child:  zipping, tying, dressing, etc.
J
Writing takes place every day in kindergarten.  One way we accomplish this is through free writing in our journals and through writer’s workshop.  Encourage your child to write at home for extra practice.
K
Keep updated by reading the classroom newsletter every week and checking the B.E.E. Folder every day for other notes and information.

L
Our class will visit the library every other day.  Our librarian is Mrs. Agar.  Your child will check out a book when we visit the library and return it within the following week.  If your child forgets to return the book, they will not be allowed to check out a new book until it is returned.
Our class eats lunch at 11:10.  If lunch money is sent to school, please send it in the B.E.E Folder.
M
The children will have 25 minutes of music class every other day. Our Music teacher is Mrs. B.
The kindergarten math curriculum provides students with mathematical experiences that help them develop number sense and a positive attitude towards mathematics that will continue throughout their school career and lives.  Many of our math concepts are covered through our daily calendar routine.
N
A weekly newsletter will be sent home on Fridays and/or posted to our class blog to keep you informed about what is happening in our class.
