Week 18 News

This week we continued our Christmas around the world theme. We traveled to Italy and read Old Befana. This story told us how the tradition of La Befana started in Italy.

We traveled to Israel to learn about Hanukkah, the winter festival of the Jewish religion. We learned about the Menorah and that children love eating the “latkes” on this special festival. We also made Star of Davids.

We traveled back to Germany and we read The Legend of the Candy Cane and made glittery candy canes. We also read Rudolph and made Rudolph out of our hands and feet.

On Friday we invited our fifth grade buddies to our room to help us make these Holiday Wreaths.

Thank you to all the parents who helps decorate the christmas trees.
 They look great!

Here are the Christmas light names the kids made in Art this week.

**Just a reminder the Holiday Party is on December 20th at 2:15. Please try to have a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or family friend come help with this very fun project.

Week 16 News

Holiday Party
On December 20th at 2:15 we will be having our Holiday Party. During this party the children will be designing their own gingerbread house. It is really fun to have a family member here to help each child with building and decorating their house. Please try to have a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or family friend come help with this very fun project.

Thank you for all the wonderful family trees. The kids loved sharing them. We are displaying them in our room and then we will put them in our memory books. Some other fun family activities that we did this week include, graphing the number of family members we have, making all about me books, and graphing the color of our houses

Math
In math we started our unit on Geometry. We practiced identifying shapes and learned that shapes are symmetrical. We made symmetrical christmas ornaments using all the different shapes.

Don't forget to return the decorating tree project!

This month's Scholastic Book Club flyers are ready for you to explore with your child. Children read more when they choose their own books, so I encourage you to look at the flyers together. Don't forget books make great Christmas presents:)
